Name: Albert
Age: 78
Occupation: Retired Electrician
Allotment occupancy time: 30 years
What made you decide to own an allotment?: I like being outside in the fresh air and being able to grow my own food
Is there a sense of community here?: Yes, as I live alone it's nice to come here to talk to people. The allotment has a shop and a coffee shop run by occupants where I can chat to people
What types of vegetables do you grow?: Whatever takes my fancy. I change what I grow every few years to keep it interesting. The soil here produces great butternut squash
Name: Jenny
Age: 40
Occupation: House Wife
Allotment occupancy time: 18 years
What made you decide to own an allotment?: I work inside the house a lot of the time and it is nice to have somewhere where I can go outside and work. Being able to feed my family with home grown produce helps teach them where vegetables come from at an early age
Is there a sense of community here?: There are a lot of other families here, and my kids can play with other children when they come here at the weekends.
What type of vegetables do you grow?: As many as we can fit on our allotment. My kids love to pick and eat the fresh fruit in the summer and help us dig up our potatoes in the autumn
Name: Daryl
Age: 29
Occupation: Builder
Allotment occupancy time: 18 months
What made you decide to own an allotment?: I wanted to see what the fuss was all about and I don't want to pay for organic vegetables so I thought I'd grow them myself
Is there a sense of community here?: I'm fairly new here but everyone has welcomed me into the allotment community. They are always happy to answer any questions I have about growing things
What type of vegetables do you grow?: I'm starting off small so far, I've been potatoes, courgettes, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts raspberries and black currents
Name: Sandra
Age: 55
Occupation: Bank Assistant
Allotment occupancy time: 4 years
What made you decide to own an allotment?: As I got older I realised I needed something that would get me out of the house and keep me active so I can keep fit for when I'm old
Is there a sense of community here?: Yes, I always find people talking while doing jobs around here. It's nice to be able to learn about what people do and where they are from
